ETFE

SUMMARY
ETFE
(Ethylene Tetra - Fluoro Ethylene)
“A new transparent building material of the future that goes beyond glass”
“ETFE, leading the world’s architecture change with innovational technology and design”
0 1 Fluorinated thermoplastic polymer
0 2 Both PTFE and ETFE are polymers, but ETFE has about 40-97% light transmission
0 3 Offers outdoors-like OPEN SPACE
0 4 High Chemical resistance (even resistant to highly corrosive sulfuric acid)
0 5 Made of the tetrafluoroethylene-ethylene copolymer and thermoplastic fluororesin, the copolymer of ethylene and ETFE

1 Layer
ETFE Film can be applied in a single-layered form and are reinforced with wire cables
Lightweight Steel or Aluminum to maintain shape and stability

2 Layer / 3 Layer
ETFE Film integrates the air system to maintain 2 or 3 air layers bound to aluminum extrusions, supported by a lightweight structure creating inflated cushions.
These low-pressure air-filled cushions provide insulation and structural stability against wind or snow loads. Wire cables are used if needed.

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
350g/㎡ Ultralight
ltralight ETFE films are eco-friendly material whose production consumes about 1/10~1/12 less energy compared to glass production, contributing to the CO2 emission reduction
Ultralight with flexibility and versatile design
Ultralight applying considerably less pressure on the steel frame and framework beneath
(Weight : under the condition t=200㎛)

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
Exceptional Light Transmission
ETFE offers outdoors-like bright open space
High-transmission of sunlight reduces the cost of electricity, helping save energy
Printing on ETFE film allows controlling light transmission depending on the applied place
Light scattering maximizes the lighting effect at nighttime

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
Strong Durability and Self-Cleaning
ETFE is designed to be durable against chemical damage and strong wind and is chemical resistant and semi-permanent lasting over 20 years.
Due to the non-adhesive surface properties of the ETFE, deposits of dirt, dust, and debris do not stick and are washed away by the rain resulting in a “self-cleaning” effect.

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
Thermal Insulation
EFTE films with 2~3 layers play an important role as a heat-insulating material in buildings
※ heat transmission coefficient
Single-Layered Form : 5.5 W/㎡·K (DIN 4108)
Double-Layered Form : 2.94 W/㎡·K (DIN 4108)
Triple-Layered Form : 1.44 W/㎡·K (KS F 2278:2014)
Quadra-Layered Form : 1.06 W/㎡·K (KS F 2278:2014)

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
Eco-Friendly Product
ETFE used in buildings can be recycled and reused
Total energy consumption for producing products is 8~10% lower compared to the energy consumption of glass
Its lightweight allows using less structural materials than other building materials, reducing CO2 emission
Up to 90% of transparency helps reduce electricity cost

Features of ETFE Ⅰ
Heat Resistance
Heat resistance of ETFE film meets international standard
ETFE restricts the spread of flames to neighboring buildings with a melting point of 270℃ and eliminates smoke, which can reduce damage

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Various types of ETFE Films
Comes in many different types such as transparent, plain, white, and printed
Each type offers features such as light and UV control
Colors are selectable

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Lighting Effect
Transmitting any additional light through ETFE film can create a unique atmosphere at any structure
ETFE film has high light scattering, allowing light therapy with lights reflected
-> Applying different types of light therapy suitable for different places such as hospital allows experiencing new membrane structure

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Safety
Self-extinguishing property of ETFE helps let the smoke out and prevents suffocation which is the major cause of death in the event of a fire (The damaged panels can be selectively replaced after fire extinction)
ETFE film does not crumbles, leaves no sharp debris unlike glass, and therefore prevents secondary damage
Elasticity of the ETFE lowers the risk of potential damage from earthquakes, unlike rigid glass

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Ventilation
High elasticity and flexibility of ETFE film makes it easier to install a ventilation system than glass
Lightweight allows applying construction designs where the entire roof can open by hydraulic transmission

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Acoustic
ETFE film transmits sound waves even smaller than 1kg/㎡ and does not reflect noise generated indoors
-> Interior spaces with ETFE film generate less echo than with other hard materials and provide stability
Soundproofing is not necessary, which deducts a significant amount of cost
-> ETFE film reduces noise level lower than 10dBA, providing places to relax and stay longer

Features of ETFE Ⅱ
Other Features
ETFE film allows for the passing of UV(A) and UV(B) which are responsible for the promotion of natural plant growth, minimizing the use of chemicals for plants
Transmission of UV(A) and UV(B) causes non-monetary effect as they help in the treatment of atopic dermatitis
ETFE can be cleaned by rainwater, unlike glass which requires cleaning periodically, which reduces maintenance cost
